Tree adoption: a social responsibility

Dr. Pankaj Chhabra wrote on Nov 2009

We know the fact that one third of our land should be of green cover. As we are increasing in population, our needs are also increasing of food, fuel, space for living, furnishing our homes and industrial development etc.  Result is the deforestation. Deforestation creates havoc.

Trees do transpiration. In case of deforestation, Local transpiration becomes less. Rain is now depending on water evaporation by seas and water bodies. So number of western disturbances increases. Tree becomes the barrier in wind blowing. Wind becomes intensive in case of deforestation. Trees give organic matter for soil fertility, it becomes less in deforestation. Trees sequester carbon, carbon in the air in deforestation. Carbon increases global warming.

In almost every state in India, forest cover is less. In Uttarpradesh it is only 10 %. Government does a lot. But efforts are not sufficient. People should not keep quite. They should be eco sensitive and adopt eco cultural practices like adopting, watering and increasing trees. They should take care of tree like their kids. Then only green cover will increase.
